MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS
MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS
In March of 2021, a study was published describing the weight loss benefits of semaglutide. Participants in the study lost on average 15-20% of their body weight. Since its publication, the medication has become very popular for weight loss. Currently, it is sold under the brand names Wegovy®and Ozempic®. However, this can be expensive for patients, unavailable, and or not covered by insurance. Semaglutide the active ingredient compounded with L-Carnitine offers the same weight loss benefits at a fraction of the cost.
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 agonist and has three main mechanisms of action, or how the drug works. It activates glucagon-like-peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor, increasing insulin secretion, decreasing glucagon secretion, and delaying gastric emptying (incretin mimetic). What does this mean for the patient? Your body is more sensitive to insulin (more efficient at responding to blood sugar spikes) and you feel full for a longer period of time after eating.
